The model is and was traditionally used all over Lapland by Finns, so you don’t have to worry about cultural appropriation.
We buy the fur from Finnish hunters, and when possible, use the fur that we have hunted ourselves. We use the fur of invasive species like raccoon dog and mink, but also wild red fox fur and sometimes marten. Red fox is hunted in Lapland to protect arctic fox as a species.
I once bought a leather stock from a cobbler that was ending his business, and about to throw their stock to trash. After I have used the stock, I will start using local reindeer leather as a main material. Until then, we use the saved material.
The lining is made of cotton and the ribbons of wool or cotton. It is not possible to make two that look exactly the same, because we are working with natural materials. The small sewing errors are also quite typical, but not affecting the use of the cap.
Every piece is unique and hand-sewn. You can also ask to make one with your own preferences concerning color and decoration.
